CHOA CHU KANG CEMETERY EXHUMATION PROGRAMME

Due to land scarcity, the government announced the New Burial Policy to limit the burial period to 15 years in 1998. Henceforth, NEA carries out exhumation programmes in phases at the Choa Chua Kang Cemetery, the only cemetery in Singapore available for burials. The exhumed remains may be cremated and put into a columbarium or be re-buried, according to one's religious requirements.
Phase 1
Phase 1 of the exhumation covers the Chinese Cemetery, Block 1 and Hindu Cemetery, Divisions 1 to 3. The graves in these areas date back to between 1946 and 1961.
